Hi There,
For sale is my beloved Mondeo ST TDCi. It had been making a high-pitched whine like a police siren upon acceleration for a few weeks now & it had been suspected by both me & my mechanics as a failing turbo. Today upon accelerating up a motorway slip road, the whine suddenly sharply increased for a second & then there was significant loss of power with white smoke billowing out the back. I managed to limp the car to my fathers house (which was closer than home to where I currently was) & it is currently sitting there. The car is driveable but only to move it - anyone buying it would ideally need to tow it or put it on a trailer. This car is sold as SPARES & REPAIRS.
I have owned the car for 3 & a half years & in that time it has been a fantastic family car, work horse & also a fun powerful car with plenty of grunt. This car has bags of torque from just under 2000rpm. 153BHP but 265lb ft of torque at 2000rpm (increasing to 297lb ft for a few seconds when flooring it due to transient overboost). Also the economy is fantastic! After not resetting the average MPG for 2 years, it was averaging 40MPG with a mix of town & motorway driving. I recently reset it & took it on a 140 mile round trip purely on motorways & it was getting 65+ MPG!
The car itself is in good overall condition for an 11 year old car but fair condition generally. It has the usual scrapes, blemishes & scratches but nothing significant. I have always looked after it but now I just cannot see the economical sense for me to have the Turbo replaced as I would rather put that money towards another car.
The car is in Moondust Silver & has the ST spec refinements but also the factory optional reverse parking sensors. I believe there were 3 optional extras - built in Sat Nav (which would be poor now compared to today's Sat Navs!), Recaro front seats the same as the Petrol ST220 (doesn't have them unfortunately!) & Reverse parking sensors, which you really need! I was originally going to get the ST220 but was concerned about the fuel economy & tax so went for the diesel.
It has:
*A/C climate control (ice cold)
*Electric windows all round
*Auto lights and wipers
*Half leather alacantra interior
*Heated and electrically height adjustable front seats
*Heated front window and rear windscreen
*Electric adjustable and folding mirrors,
*Light sensitive rear view mirror (it tints itself when the lights behind are too bright),
*Cruise control (works!)
*Sony internal in-dash 6 disc multi changer
*Aux stereo jack input in glovebox
*Handy audio control switch stork next to steering wheel
*Trip computer plus MPG etc.
*Six speed gearbox,
*Reversing sensors (will cruise at 70mph at 2000rpm!)
Tax is fair at £185 per year & insurance group is 13, so not too high.
In the time I have owned it, it has also had:
*New nearside rear suspension spring - 2015 -
*New tailgate gas-lift struts - 2015
*New Intercooler Boost Pipe - 2015
*New Bosche battery - 2015
*New centre console pop-out cup-holder
*Tracking & 4-wheel hunter laser alignment - 2015
*New rear off-side brake calliper - 2016
It also has 4 good tyres - 2 identical relatively new Falken tyre's at the front with loads of life left in them & 2 identical Yokohoma BluEarth ones at the rear which are pretty new. Tyres were majorly wearing on the front insides before I got the laser alignment done but perfect afterwards. All 4 tyres are since the alignment was done so wear is even on them.
I have V5 present & there are 2 working keys. I have the radio keycode & locking wheelnut as well. The spare wheel looks like it's never been used & that along with the tools & warning triangle are all present.
MOT expires April 2017 so has just been done. It failed first time around on a slightly leaking off-side brake calliper but this was replaced & it was re-tested & passed.
Bad bits that I know of are:
*All 4 alloys are quite kerbed & could do with a refurb (if you care about that)
*The trip computer display LCD on the dash (the one of the left currently displaying 46.6mpg) has a blown light-bulb. The bulb costs less than £1 but the labour is about £100 to fit it as in involves removing the whole light cluster unit & is a pain! It has never bothered me as you can still read it fine & is not essential to read at night! (even though you still can)
*The drivers heated seat occasionally doesn't work but passenger one is fine.
* a couple of plastic jack-point covers are missing (common issue)
The car also has a K&N Panel air filter fitted instead of the standard paper one. This is declared to my insurance & they didn't bother charging me any extra for it as it came up as £9 extra for the year so the guy at Admiral just did it for nothing. I find cotton-panel filters improve MPG slightly over the standard paper ones. The airbox is otherwise standard & there are no other modifications.
I am based in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, post code SE18. The car is currently in The borough of Lewisham, post code SE12, but I am hoping to limp it home & park it outside within the next couple of days.
I must stress that although this is sold as spares & repairs, the car otherwise is fine so a replacement Turbo is likely all that is needed to get it back in business, therefore I will not let it go for peanuts. Obviously this means trusting me as there will be no test driving it but for someone who can get it fixed cheaply you would likely get a bargain! I know a refurb turbo costs around £350 (with most refurb sellers wanting the original Turbo sent to them first or they charge £100 more) then of course the labour...
